What Should I Pack in My Hospital Bag?

The dreaded annoying hospital bag. It sounds like a “fun to-do” at first, but there’s so much prep for your first baby, it can easily get put on the back burner.

Let’s put your mind at ease: the hospital will have everything you need! Postpartum care products, baby products, even tooth brushes and toothpaste.

My water broke at home and we did not finish packing our bag in time and left in a panic. The only things the hospital didn’t have for me were my own clothes to go home in, a fan, and phone charger(s). Good news for you is that pandemic times have come to an end, so if you do forget anything, someone can (hopefully) bring it to you!

My fav things we did bring!

  1. Baby’s “coming home outfit” which ended up being the first outfit she wore for her first photo taken shortly after birth. Bring multiple outfits/sleepers. They get changed more than you think. Plus who doesn’t love options?!

  2. Baby pacifiers. We brought a few brands. Not all babies take pacifiers and that’s okay! My baby’s fav ended up being Frigg.

  3. Baby swaddles. Bamboo ones are the best.

Things I wish we had:

  1. A fan! I was incredibly hot my entire labor. I made my husband fan me with a piece of paper for so long, I’m sure his arms were tired. I’d opt for a plug-in fan and an extension cord. Add a battery powered one while you’re at it, just in case.

  2. A bluetooth speaker. We did listen to music during labor, but it was playing directly from my phone speakers which was better than silence. Baby was born to “Something” by The Beatles. So cute.

  3. Our own toiletries. I am picky when it comes to products so it was a rough stay.

  4. Snacks! Throw snacks in there now.

Bottom line: don’t stress! You don’t need all the extras.

Meet Jessica

Jessica traveled to us for her maternity session, from Mississippi, after doing her boudoir session with us back in 2021. We loved having Jess back. We knew her photos were going to be stunning and we weren’t wrong.

”I was thrilled to come back and see Traci for my maternity photos! The best investment I’ve ever made! Seeing her photos afterwards makes me appreciate my body for what it is! And my husband also loves my pictures!”
